Xero FAQ's

Do I need to change my accountant or bookkeeper?

Not unless you want to. Your accountant can be given full access to Xero so they can have the data they need. As most accountants only use software they are happy with, I'm happy to provide details of accountants that are Xero friendly. You do not need to hire us as your bookkeeper if you are happy with the one you have as you can just subscribe to the software.

How can you charge so little for your services?

SSP Bookkeeping has been using Xero for a while now and have found it to be so user friendly that we became a certified partner with them, and it saves us time in doing the books. So if it takes us 30% less time, you will get a bill that is 30% less than normal.

Your based in Ashford Kent. Does my business have to be in Kent?

Not at all. Your business can be as far away as Manchester to use our bookkeeping service. Due to the online nature of Xero we can serve businesses across the country. All you would need to do is send us your paper work, either electronically or in the post and we can input that data as soon as we receive it. And as we are doing that, you can access all of your business financial data online.

What is the difference between a bookkeeper and an accountant?

In general, a bookkeeper is responsible for the financial recording of a business while the task of an accountant is to interpret data provided by the bookkeeper to maximise the health and profitability of the business.

What is Bookkeeping?

Every business, no matter how large or small, is required by law to record the financial transactions undertaken by an individual or organisation.

This can be a huge task for any business and if not done so correctly can cause problems with income tax and VAT returns later.

Why use a bookkeeper?

To save you from the often time-consuming and repetitious, yet essential workload, enabling sole traders and small businesses to concentrate on more core business tasks and to focus on their customers.

What makes a good Bookkeeper?

A good bookkeeper is one that records financial transactions of the business accurately, that is accredited to a professional institute, and is honest and reliable.

It is also someone who is approachable at all times and can communicate effectively in a "language" you can understand.

Do you use any other accounting software other than Xero?

Yes we do. We heavily promote Xero on our website as we strongly believe it offers our clients value for money. However, If you wish to use our services using Sage, Quickbooks or any other accounting software we are happy to do that also.

Bookkeepers charge for every minute don't they?

This may be true of some bookkeepers, however, at SSP Bookkeeping Services once we establish your needs and have agreed the services you require, we will be happy to quote a fixed fee for the work after an initial period.

There are no hidden costs. The price you are quoted, for the services agreed, is the price you pay. You will not be charged without prior agreement from yourselves.

I'm new in business, are there reduced rates for start-up's?

We 100% support new business ventures and will offer you a preferential rate.

It requires a great deal of trust to put my financial paperwork in your hands - How do I know its in good hands?

You may have noticed the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (I.C.B) logo displayed on the left hand side of every page. This shows that I am an associate member of a globally recognised Institute for bookkeepers. We all work to a code of ethics, maintaining the Institutes very high standards - privacy and confidentiality is a key focus. Rest assured, you're in safe and trustworthy hands at all times.

Will my data be kept securely?

Our computer and applications are password protected. All paperwork will be stored in locked filing cabinets. All computer files will be backed up regularly.
